Our layout system: maximum flexibility, depending on the medium and occasion.

The topics we as Deutsche Bahn address are as different as the media we use to communicate them. Variable surface modules allow us maximum flexibility. Inspired by our design style, they offer the perfect stage for all content, from factual to emotionally charged and from smartphone screens to billboards.

A summary of key points:

  1. The logo precedes the communication and always appears above.

Flexible text alignment

The logo and pulse serve as a visual frame to the messages and are always aligned with the text. Depending on the medium, you can choose between left-aligned, centred and right-aligned type.

Distances and positioning

The logo, pulse and text can be freely positioned along the vertical axis. The logo precedes the communication and is thus positioned at the top. In exceptional cases, which require approval, such as sales communication, this order may be changed. As a rule, the elements maintain a minimum distance of half a logo height.

Variable surface modules

If the message is not clearly legible on the image, you can position it on a surface module, which then overlaps with the image. The size of the surface module is flexible and always adapts to the content. But you can also position the message on a white background and insert the image in a surface module. Depending on the occasion of the communication, this can make images more eye-catching or reserved.

Creating rounded corner


Images and surfaces in the format feature rounded corners. The radius is equal to the rounded surface of the pulse. Images and surfaces that extend into the bleed do not have rounded corners at the edge of the format. 

The rounded surface can be created by manually placing the pulse on the image or surface corner or it can be calculated exactly. To calculate the rounded surface, cut the height of the pulse in half and specify this value as the rounded surface of the surface corners.
