Why do we need domain management?

Domains are becoming an ever more important part of our brand, which is why domains need to be considered when building a holistic brand profile. A lack of domain management can weaken our competitive situation and endanger the security of the DB Group. For example, if important domains – including typos of these domains – are not registered, e-mails can be intercepted, and confidential data can end up in the wrong hands.

If domains are registered by third parties, users can land on fraudulent or image-damaging websites. The brands are charged with harmful content.

What are domains and how do they affect brands?

A domain is a unique internet address where specific content can be found. Meaningful and target-group-specific domain names allow topics to be presented digitally and make it easier to find products – so through domains, our brands become visible and can be found on the web.

What is DB's approach to domain management?

  • Which main domains are used?
    Modules
  • Which domains are communicated?
    Modules

Our communication focuses on the main domains. This ensures that it is quickly clear who is sending the respective content, and the communicated topics strengthen the particular main domain at the same time.

    Example 1 – Topic: Careers
    deutschebahn.com/careers

    Example 2 – Topic: WiFi
    bahn.de/wifi

    Example 3 – Topic: UK
    dbcargo.com/uk

  • Which e-mail addresses do we use to communicate with customers and business partners?
    Modules

To simplify e-mail communication, we use only two e-mail domains in the whole of the DB Group.
These clear structures provide good orientation for employees, customers and business partners, while lowering recipients' risk of mistaking "fraudulent" e-mails for genuine DB e-mails.

Who is responsible for domain management at DB?

The brand management team will support you with all the creative and legal aspects of domain management. You can reach us by e-mail at marke@deutschebahn.com .

When the launch of a new product or brand is planned, or campaigns or cooperative projects are initiated, domain management should be taken into account in the early phase of the project. This includes reviewing the desired domain, registering it early on (if possible), as well as finding a name and checking trademark laws.

How do I register a domain?

Domains can be registered in just a few steps. To do this, please complete the registration form available here. The brand management team will review the content and decide whether to arrange for the domain to be registered by a service provider.
